Best Swell Direction: South Best Size: 4-5ft Airport left starts to close out if it's any bigger than that. Best Winds: SE Tradewinds Crowd Factor Airport left can also get crowded, and is a favourite with Japanese surfers. It's not a super hollow or powerful wave and the waves only run for about 50-70 mtrs.
What kind of wave is Airport Rights?
Nestled at the end of the Ngurah Rai International Airport runway, you’ll find Airport Rights. Considering it’s not exactly visible from Kuta with the naked eye, you’ll want to hire a boatman to trolley you out to the line-up. Expect to pay a little more for a ride to airport rights as it’s a longer journey than other breaks accessible by boat in the area unless you catch a boat from Jimbaran Beach.
It might be a little crowded, but if you hit ideal conditions; high tide, no wind, decent swell, it’s well worth the extra few Indonesian rupiah you’ll have to shell out along the way. From 2-4 feet you can expect Airport Rights to be breaking for nearly 100 meters with the odd barrel or two. It is rare you’ll catch this wave on your own so be patient and respectful in the line-up.

What kind of wave is Airport Lefts?
About a kilometre offshore, and south of Kuta Reef, you’ll fine Airport Lefts at the far end of the runway extending into the water. Unless you’re willing to make the paddle, (which more than most don’t) you’ll want to hire a boat for the journey outside.
Here’s a tip: don’t forget to book your boat ride home or you’ll find yourself past sunset hitchhiking for aeroplanes. There are two peaks at Airport Lefts that are known to line up during the right conditions. Anything above a midsized swell will probably close out but under the right conditions, you can expect an open rippable wall for 50-70 meters on higher tides.
Airport Lefts is more exposed than Kuta Reef and Airport Rights so it can be affected by a crosswind. This spot tends to get very crowded but as is true in much of Bali the vibe is mellow if you’re respectful and don’t get aggressive.
Airport left is as the name says in front of the airport runway in Tuban, about 1.5 kms south of Kuta Reef and about 1km offshore. Once again, the go is to hire a local boat to get yourself out there, that way you can save your energy for the waves.
